Update #1 -- My 23-year-old cousin just had her first baby. She's a small town girl and newly married so this is a normal progression, she isn't to young in her world. I am crossing my fingers that my sister doesn't catch her baby fever though, because she is 24 and getting married this summer and she likes little kids way too much. I think I might bribe her with the "we can have babies together and it will be fun!" argument (little does she know how deft I am at keeping my ticking clock at bay -- the desire for luxury goods and an Oscar really muffle that clock).

I feel like my LJ needs a little love. I have been ignoring all of my blogs during my two-week east coast swing and three-day Vegas extravaganza, but I feel as if I have been especially neglectful of my LJ because it has gotten the short end of the stick for a while. And it is the one that has been with me the longest. I still need to love it even if it isn't shiny and sparkly anymore, yes?
I am back at class. Only two this semester although I feel like a slacker. I just need to do two because of the sequencing I need to turn out the most quality papers I can muster. I don't want to half ass this because a PhD is still in the possibility group. And I am interviewing for a new internship. I have three interviews lined up because I am apparently kick ass at landing unpaid internship interviews. Hopefully that will spill over to when I actually attempt to target paid gigs.
And I guess that is it for now. I am back to rebuilding a routine. Maybe not eating so much fattening vacation food. Perhaps I'll even rustle me up a salad and what not and get back to my weekly yoga class and hiking. My body needs something, it is turning all cranky from a lot of walking and sitting and nothing else in the way of exercise.
Hope everyone is having a good August.

I am hitting up the east coast for a few weeks in August. I have a pretty packed schedule with NYC the first weekend and my cousin's wedding in upstate NY the next, but I will be in DC for a few days and crashing at Cynji's place for two nights. I was planning to roll into town on an afternoon train on Sunday, August 6 and thought that if people were up for it a Lauriol Plaza outing should be arranged. I mean Sunday evening margaritas in August sounds like an exceptional way to pass time if you ask me.
More info later. I am thinking maybe...6ish?

I am just going to go on record saying that my vox is way prettier than my LJ. Also, I grabbed becca.vox.com, which is sweet. I hope they can figure out how to integrate the two communities because LJ is a little wonky with dealing with friends. Also, I like the myspace atmosphere of a larger community that supports smaller communities. It is quite cumbersome to surf outside of your LJ community and discover others, but Vox takes the myspace concept and makes it better (cause myspace sucks donkey ballz). I am also wondering if vox will attract a more bloggy crowd like LJ, rather than the see-and-be-seen crowd that myspace has.
Don't worry, I will read both. And as for posting, it will continue to remain as the mood takes me -- which is uneven.
So for the record, currently you can see me on www.simplybecca.com; becca.vox.com; and here. As a random note, Brent also bought www.hedonistictendencies.com for me and I am squatting on that shit because I am either going to blog about food, fashion, and all things hedonistic, or I am going to sell it to a spa-salon (or open one on my own for that matter).

Hmmm, perhaps that should have been "Crusher."
Tonight I get to meet Wil Wheaton. WOOHOO! And I am certain that my friend Liz (who is the one who knows him and will be making the intro) will tell him that I am excited to meet him cause I had an elementary/middle school crush on him. That and the whole Next Gen thing I had going on for years.
Excited!! Hmmm, I need to go make some more quality posts to SimplyBecca cause it is kinda a blogger/actor/improv thing at the IO and he is a prolific LA blogger (I know some of you read him so you know what I mean). If he meets me and then I land on the blog roll I better live up to that.
Any suggestions for me to blog about?

You know you are reading a good book that you will enjoy when the author uses the following sentence in his introduction to widely known cultural thheorists.
The essay alternates between sharp, lucid points about media power, and rather more rambling prose about the nature of mass culture - as if Adorno and Horkheimer were fighting for control of the typewriter, and one of them was drunk.
Media, Gender and Identity: An Introduction by David Gauntlett
Gotta love the Brits right?

No more weddings! I have reached the threshhold in a 12 month period!

I really need to start learning to wear sunscreen regularly. Not only am I already more tan on June 1 than I am in Sept., but I also have one arm that is slightly darker (at this moment only I can tell, but it has really only been sunny for 2 weeks now).
And dear God, I know why all those celebs wear those big ass bug sun glasses. They are absolutely necessary because the sun is an evil and sneaky thing that finds its way into your eyes from all angles. Half the time all you see about you is the hazy half images created by blinding sunlight and squinting eyes. I now know the reasons behind the scarves and the big ass sun glasses. Perhaps celebrities aren't crazy. (Or should I say, maybe those attributes don't signify their craziness).

I feel that it is my duty to report that at the immigration marches today in LA they were selling "bacon-wrapped hotdogs."
April 30th, 2006
So, there are supposed to be large immigration (pro) protests in LA tomorrow. In fact, some of the marching is suppose to be right by my apartment, which means traffic hell, as well as an easy opportunity to join in. I would have to go alone though, which is ok, but not the ideal situation. Maybe I will just head down to Wilshire and lend my support but not march. I already filled my car and made sure I didn't have to buy anything tomorrow (the economic impact aspect of the protest). I may have to cross lines to get a coffee from the Starbucks...depends on if I can hold out. I do have some nice black tea here, so perhaps I can handle the withdrawal.
I am intrigued to see what goes on. It is amusing, I move from DC, protest central, and land in the city, and actually the neighborhood some major protests are happening. Incidentally I took a trip to San Francisco a few years ago when there were fairly good sized protests in the downtown area there. Apparently dissension and I are close subconscious friends.

WOOHOO Birthday!
Also note, last day of first semester of grad school I have been talking about going to for years while living in a city I have been saying I wanted to live in for years. PROGRESS!
Also, now I am in my 30s, which clearly means I am finally hott because current actresses explain to us exactly how your 30s are hot.
:-) You know what? 30 is pretty good I think. Much better than 29 was.

I passed my drivers test (written)! I got one question wrong, but I am not sure what it was because as far as I saw they told me I got them all right. I think I might have accidently not answered a question because the touch screen sucked. I will get my nice new CA license in the mail in three weeks and will no longer have to tell people where to find my birthday on my license when purchasing alcohol. An interesting sidenote on that is that I also registered to vote. It was weird because I had to identify as a party. BTW, they call Independents "American Independents" -- I feel like it is an ethnic class or something. I checked Democrat because sometimes I like primaries (you don't get them as an Independent usually) and because I want to go to the drunken crazy party they call "convention" one day.
I also passed my smog test. No pollutin' from the mazda. This means that on Monday my car gets registered in CA. This also means that I think I get to drive around with no plates for like two months until they come in the mail. The amount of people driving around without plates is ridiculous. Supposedly they have tiny pieces of paper in their front window. Yeah, because that matters when the cops are in pursuit or there is a hit and run.

I just finished watching What About Brian (you can probably catch it tomorrow night on ABC if you missed it tonight). The characters are 30 and it is set in LA. So of course I automatically love it whether it is crap or not. But it does make me a little sad. I want the friends camaraderie and I continue to wonder if it is a Hollywood fantasy. I mean, do groups of people get together on a weekly basis for drinks and dinner? Kids, no kids, mixed groups (none of this girls night/guys night shit I dislike so much)? Do they get together at each others houses? No choruses of "I am too tired" or "I have no money"? These images make me happy, make me hopefully. Realty usually shows me people sitting on their asses comatose at home or at some crappy pick up bar. Sometimes I just want to have a midnight BBQ and enjoy it. Or go out to a dinner with some friends, drink a bottle or two of wine and hang out for a few hours.
Sometimes I think that the day will come, but at the same time I still am afraid to hold out hope.
